This was an outing arranged on "SongofthePaddle" for open canoes so the only club members were Mary Colin and myself. But thanks to Davy and his position as Vice Commodore of Newferry Waterski Club, we had a great place to set off from and use of their facilities too. We went to Newferry with the intention of paddling on Lough Beg, but unfortunately the wind was too strong and in the wrong direction so we decided to paddle down the river, into the wind so that we had an easier journey on the way back.

There were twelve of us in total, some using sailing rigs and the rest paddling tandem to cope with the conditions.
Here is Martin with a rig he made himself from plans downloaded from the net.

Here is a better view of his set-up.

Here is the club-house with the guys getting ready to launch.

Francis and Andre paddling in a wood strip canoe.

Mary and I in Colin's canoe using Mary's downwind sail.

Frank sets off into the wind.

Pete and Tony in Pete's Coleman.

Ryan and his snooker cue?? (I know.........its his Paddle)

It was a wet and windy night, but still enjoyable with all that. But maybe it would have been miserable without the Ski Club house to return to and have a brew in.

Thanks to all who came, and thanks Davy for the offer of the clubhouse, it worked out really well.
